Weekend Warriors
A
poet once said that "war is a casual mistress, and the world is her double
bed." The Red Wings will have no such sleeping around - they quickly vacated
the battlefield after sweeping their opening series - though they relish
seeing the Sharks and Blues go the distance in their own struggle. Meanwhile
the Pistons must court a bitter battle of their own after going down to
the Heat in Game 1, with their most skilled warrior walking wounded. The
Tigers flirted most openly with belligerence over the weekend, engaging
serial brawls with the White Sox. After a 4-13 start, the Tigers are already
tossing and turning at night.

Worldwide Leader In Diaper

A Newaygo
couple put West Michigan on the map, and on
the Web, with their SportsCenter- themed new arrival - a baby named
"Espen," after our favorite sports TV network. Clearly they bypassed the
option of "BeBe Elle," a nod to a fine local sports radio station, or a
tribute to statisticians - "Arby I." What sports acronym would you never
name your kid after? We'll read the best on the Ball Team.

If
tuning in to the Pistons' flop against Miami Saturday weren't sickening
enough to begin with, NBC treated us to sparring partners Bill Walton and
Steve "Snapper" Jones on the broadcast. But wait, what do you think - entertaining
break from the traditional X's-and-O's announcer format or amateurish toddler-style
bickering that detracted from the game? Let us know by e-mail or at the
Fan Forum. We'll be talking about it on the Ball Team and taking your thoughts.

The Coin Toss
By Kelly Feasel
Saturday’s brawl(s) between
the Tigers and the White Sox may be exactly what the Pussycats need to
wake
up…but it sure as heck didn’t look like it on Sunday when they were again
pounded by the Southsiders. In 1971 the Cincinnati Reds were mired in third
place, 10 ½ games behind the Dodgers. A brawl between the two teams
took place on a Saturday. On Sunday, down 11-3, Hal King, a journeyman
pinch hitter, slammed a Granny and the Reds caught the Dodgers to win the
game. They went on to challenge for the crown, falling short in the end.
While defending your honor and your teammates is exactly what a team should
do this situation, the brawl(s) will not bring the Tigers back to respectability.
They need hitting, pitching, speed, and fundamentals. This is not a good
baseball team, and it doesn’t appear like they will be this year, Juan
Gone or no Juan Gone. It’s going to be another looooong summer for Tiger
fans.

same reason WBBL AM does - to rise above the flood of scores and stats
by 1) taking time for analysis and 2) bringing the fans into the conversation.
On the air we get you in the game by taking your calls and faxes. Online
we offer e-mails, message boards, chat rooms, and local polls. We
keep you informed, but realize that information without perspective is
hollow. And so we look to inject the same personality into our Web site
that you hear on 1340 AM.
