The Ball hits the Net
Three
years ago, back when the Web was still primarily the playground of hackers
and perverts, WBBL's Web page was a humble offering of a schedule and bulletin
boards. Now, as the Web has seeped into all crevices of daily life, we're
so caught up in all this wave-of-the-future stuff we thought we owed it
to you to give it another try. So here it is, the new WBBL.com, everything
any round-the-clock listener, channel-flipper, and rabid local sports fan
could wish for. We've got station information, staff commentary, fan interaction,
audio files, links, and prizes, making WBBL.com will be a must-stop
for sports surfers. So bookmark it now, take a look around, and keep coming
back for the best in sports on the Web at the new WBBL.com

about our re-launch
Last
year we rooted against Pat Verbeek as he earned a Stanley Cup ring; this
year we're pulling for him to repeat. The Dallas transplant helped the
Red Wings get a red-letter 5-3 win over the Stars ... Was that a Y2K-leap-day-hangover
glitch or was Bob Knight actually gracious in defeat after a controversial
finish? Knight said Wisconsin "deserved" their 56-53 upset of the Hoosiers,
even after replays showed the ball going out of bounds off a Badger with
one second left ... Calvin sharpshooter Mindi Andringa hadn't hit anything
until a three-pointer with five seconds left gave the Knights a stunning
win over national power Capital. Their prize? A sectional with three of
the top four teams left in the bracket. The Calvin men will host a sectional
after a harrowing win of their own.

The Coin Toss
By Kelly Feasel
After Saturday's debacle
in East Lansing there is no doubt which Michigan university has the superior
basketball team. But what happened to Tom Izzo?
As Michigan State destroyed
Michigan Izzo supporters would have expected to see fewer three point shots,
more use of the shot clock, and less of the Big Three: Cleaves, Mo Pete,
and Charlie Bell. If, as Cleaves said, "we weren't out to embarrass anybody,
it was just one of those days when everything was falling," why not put
up less shots and save some of those for another day? You're going
to the Big Dance and your seed isn't going to be decided by how badly you
pounded your wounded, out-gunned, out-manned, and out-hustled in-state
rival. After all, this isn't college football, where margin of victory
counts more in some computer index or catches the eyes of an inane BCS
Selection Committee.

E-mail of the Day
Why
is it that there is not a state law (not just the NCAA) to punish athletes
when they commit a crime? We, the people, are paying for them to go
to school. I believe
scholarships should be taken away by the state
when certain crimes
are committed.

ABOUT WBBL.COM
WBBL.com exists for the
same reason WBBL AM does - to rise above the flood of scores and stats
by 1) taking time for analysis and 2) bringing the fans into the conversation.
On the air we do it by taking your calls and faxes. Online we offer e-mails,
message boards, chat rooms, and local polls. We keep you informed,
but realize that information without perspective is hollow. And so we look
to inject the same personality into our Web site that you hear on
1340 AM. |
